Does Applying for a Mortgage Hurt my Credit?

Short answer—Not in a way that is significant!

Let’s talk about it.

A lot of mortgage applicants are nervous about having their credit “hit” or “checked” by the mortgage broker. They are concerned that this will make their credit score come way down and could affect the mortgage amount or rates that they are able qualify for.

Here’s the thing—as long as your credit score is not hovering around 600 (typically the minimum required to qualify for AAA rates) and a credit check risks dipping it below that line, you really don’t have anything to worry about in the long run. Credit scores experience ups and down. It’s totally normal! So having your credit hit by a mortgage broker really isn’t something you need to worry about.
